What ways does it benefit people?
It serves any person with a physical or mentl impairment that substantially limits a major life activity.
- For children in the classroom, they would recieve extended time on tests, enlarged print, visual aids, oral tests, and individualized schedules.
Why is it important?
- This was the first federal civil rights protection for people with disabilities. Unlike previous laws, this covers the whole life span.
- In addition, any person that has a documented disability, but do not qualifiy for the IDEA, they were covered under this.

Why was it created?
- It was created based on the language of previous Civil Rights Laws that protected women and minorities
- When it was first passed, it was not being enforced. Therefore in San Francisco, a Sit In began for 28 days that consisted of rallies, speakers, media, fund raising, publicity, and outreach and was critical in signing the regulation.
What is it?
Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act is the first public law specifically aimed at protecting children and adults against discrimination due to a disability. No individuals can be excluded because of his or her disability from any federal or financial assitance.
