Gwendolen is the in my opinion one of the most self-confident people in the whole play. For example her wording such as "I am never wrong" and " I am always smart" shows the she is very confident in how she thinks and believes.
She is very foolish and fallible such as when she judges Cecily by her name assuming the they are going to be such great friends.
She is fashionable because of the way she is raised by her mother as well as how her mother wishes for her to be as good as she is.

Jack when we first meet him is known by the name of Ernest. We do not know his true name until he is questioned about why his cigarette box says Jack and not Ernest.
After proposing to Ms. Fairfax lady blackbell talks to Jack and sees the he is quite the young man and she is impressed with him
