  • Elected President of the Cordeliers district in 1789.
  • In 1790, he founded the popular association known as the Cordeliers Club.
  • He was a member of the provisioinal Paris Commune but was later dismissed.
  • His careers included being a lawyer and politician.
  • After attending school in Champagne, he was educated by the Oratorians at Troye in 1773.
  • Obtained his law degree in 1784 in Reims.
  • He went to Paris to practice law.
