Procedures/Tests
- Pap Test-screening test to collect and microscopically examine cells taken from the cervix
- Episiotomy-During childbirth, the vagina may not stretch enough an episiotomy is preformed to help enlarge the opening and deliver the baby
- Chorionic Villus Sampling (CVS)- prenatal test involves taking a sample of tissue from the placenta to test for chromosomal abnormalities
- Amniocentesis Procedure-a procedure used to obtain a small sample of the amniotic fluid that surrounds the fetus during pregnancy
- Dilation and Curettage (D and C)- surgical procedure in which the cervix is dilated so that the cervical canal and uterine lining can be scraped with a spoon-shaped instrument to remove abnormal tissues
Dieases/Disorders
- Breast Biopsy-samples of breast tissue are removed with a special biopsy needle or during surgery
- Cesarean Delivery- surgical delivery of a baby by an incision through the mother's abdomen and uterus
- Colposcopy-a colposcope is used to examine the cervix and vagina for abnormalities
- Mastectomy- surgical procedure in which all or a portion of a breast is removed as a part of a treatment plan
- Hysterectomy-the visual examination of the canal of the cervix and interior of the uterus using a thin, lighted, flexible tube

- Prolapsed uterus- falling uterus from its normal position into the vaginal area.
- Pelvic inflammatory disease (PID)- infection of the uterus lining, fallopian tubes, or ovaries
- Endometriosis- cells from the lining of the uterus grow in other areas of the body
- HIV/AIDS- severe damage to the immune system
- Premenstrual Syndrome (PMS)- refers to a wide range of symptoms that: Start during the second half of the menstrual cycle
- Menopause- periods (menstruation) eventually stop/ can't get pregnant
- Miscarriage- spontaneous loss of a fetus before the 20th week of pregnancy
- Peutz-Jeghers Syndrome- (inherited) person develops intestinal polyps and is at a significantly higher risk for developing certain cancers
- Uterine Fibroids- noncancerous (benign) tumors that develop in the womb uterus
- Cervicitis- swelling (inflammation) of the end of the uterus (cervix)
