Nigeria
Nigeria's Upside...
Maybe
- Nigeria is most famous for oil. They are the number one oil producer in Africa and are the twelfth largest in the world.
- Some slaves were taken directly from Nigerian ports
- Millions of Africans were taken from their homes and families, shipped off to the Americas and sold as slaves
- The Atlantic Slave Trade is better known as the triangle of trade, ships left Africa with slaves, and returned with goods.
- The new president in Nigeria has halted all oil from being refined because the of their government being corrupt.
Slave Trade
- When Nigeria was colonized by the British they were forced into slave trade. The British continued to participate in slave trade until 1807 when slave trade was abolished.
Why Was Nigeria Imperialized
- Nigeria was was taken over by missionaries who's goal was to change the natives into a "westernized culture" or Christian belief system
- Many missionaries dedicated their lives in trying to influence Nigeria, some even died in order to achieve these goals
Is Nigeria Still Effected?
British Colonization In Nigeria
- The British wanted Nigeria because of the products and resources it held like palm oil, and palm kernels
- Nigeria still faces problems from when they were imperialized. For example their government does not have much power of their country. Which leaves many of their citizens neglected
- Palm kernels were used to feed dairy cattle and used to burn in boilers to generate electricity in palm oil mills and villages around

More Psychological Effects
- This is a poem written during the British colonization in Nigeria
- Countries in Africa, like Nigeria, couldn't easily beak away from the continuous mental and psychological struggle that western imperialism created
The Berlin Conference
- Many African novelists and poets wrote poems and novels to try and find solutions of the physiological effects.
- Nigeria was established as a colony of Britain at the Berlin Conference in 1844.
- The government has been more of an experimental democracy which is corrupt, and leaves Nigeria in heavy debt.
Physiological Effects
Of Imperialism
- The Berlin Conference was called upon to settle disputes in European colonization.
- Some of the effects could only be relevant to the people colonized or invaded.
- Nigeria's historical past was hinged on colonialism, slavery and the name "Nigeria" which was put in place by the colonial masters
- Imperialism put consequences on colonial education, religion, and political power.
