Yes, I believe that tagging students with RFID tags is a violation of privacy rights. When tagging the students, the school did not get the permission or input from the parents. There is no need to track students at all times, they are not a product.
RFID is a tracking device. Privacy is a human right. It is the freedom to have control over personal information. Privacy is the right to not be observed without ones consent. RFID allows individuals to do location-based tracking or profile ones choices, this is voilating privacy rights.
Advantages:
- Designed to keep kids safe from child abductions.
- RFID information can be shared with law enforcement agencies or the Amber Alert system if a child disappears.
Disadvantages:
-Triggers an alarm from 30-feet radius of reader, but does not stop abduction from happening.
If students and parents gave their consent to use RFID tags, then schools would not be violating privacy rights.
