- 1st wave of feminism took place in the late 19th and 20th century
- The first wave of feminism was generally propelled by middle class white women
- Goal of this wave was to open up opportunities for women with focus on suffrage.
2nd wave began in the 1960s
The second wave drew in women of color and developing nations seeking sisterhood and solidarity and claiming.
"Women's struggle is class struggle"
- Third wave grew out of an enormous cultural shift.
- It was widely thought feminism had done its job and was no longer a necessarily political or social force in the "development"
- Due to this, Third wave feminism is was not as often or given as much respect as the first and second waves
- It was not for the laws of men to grant permission for women to vote or allow them the rights to decide matter involving their bodies.
- Much like the Third Wave out lived the theories of the Second Wave, the Fourth Wave enacted the concepts that Third Wave feminists had put forth.
