Walkie-Talkie Confidentiality

Walkie-Talkie Procedure

  • Confidential information, including students' names and room numbers should not be communicated over the walkie-talkie.
  • The walkie-talkie must be picked up from the RA office before 7:00 P.M.
  • Allowing residents and other off-duty Resident Assistants to hear information over the walkie-talkie could result in a breach of the Confidentiality Agreement.
  • You must sign on the walkie-talkie at 6:55 P.M. and sign off after the final round has been completed.
  • After the final duty round has been completed, all walkie-talkies must be returned to the RA office and placed on the charger.
  • When signing on, you must use the following sign on procedure.

  • What if my walkie-talkie isn't working?

Contact the RD on Duty (336-880-4409) and let them know. Send an email to your RD about the broken walkie-talkie.

  • What channel should I be on?

To communicate with SECOM and other OSL staff members, all walkie-talkies should be on channel 1.

  • Can someone else hold the walkie-talkie for me?

RAs on Duty can have other RAs hold the walkie-talkie for them as long as they have communicated the switch information to the RD on Duty as well as their RD.

Walkie Talkie Policies

  • The walkie-talkie should be used for official Office of Student Life business.
  • The use of profanity over the walkie-talkie is strictly prohibited.
  • The walkie-talkie should not be used for casual conversation. The airwaves must be kept clear in case of an emergency.
  • The walkie-talkie should remain on channel 1 at all times to communicate with SECOM and other OSL staff members.
