Lower latitudes of the world experience the most climate change due to already high temperatures. Places such as Africa, where food scarcity is already an issue, will be hit the hardest by warming temperatures.

In Florida...

Climate change will have disastrous effects

With all of Florida less than 345 feet above sea level, rising water levels pose a significant threat to agriculture in this state.

In conclusion, solving climate change will...

prevent food scarcity

Climate change would also bring severe weather like heavier rains or hurricanes that would destroy both the coastline and farms inland.

Since climate change causes many problems with agricultural practices, the logical step to insuring more food for the 7 billion people on Earth is to eliminate climate change. This can be done by seeking other sources of energy and reducing our carbon footprints.

To stop climate change...

Reduce waste, specifically food

Works Cited

Garbage in landfills produces methane and other greenhouse gases. Our oceans also suffer, as seen by the Great Pacific Garbage Patch, that is the size of Texas. If we reduce the amount of waste, this will help the environment.

To stop climate change...

The world should seek alternative renewable resources.

Renewable resources are always available and are more eco-friendly than fossil fuels, preventing more damage to the Earth's food sources. In Sweden, 53% of the energy consumed is renewable.

Because climate change causes so many problems...

My solution for solving food scarcity is boosting production by stopping climate change

Climate change has caused...

Significant damage to our food sources

Deforestation is a method used to make more farmland available, which releases carbon emissions. The agricultural industry itself contributes about 30% of all emissions released into the atmosphere.

So one part of the solution is to lessen the deforestation world wide specifically in places like Nigeria, Indonesia and Brazil.

Climate change causes...

Climate change has raised water temperatures and sea levels affecting the fish populations. 2.5 billion people worldwide, the majority in Asia, depend on fisheries for food .

Extreme conditions making it harder to grow food

The increased amounts of carbon dioxide in the environment makes the plants more productive, but as a result, they have less nutritional value. Rice, maize and wheat provide 60% of the world's food.

Due to increasing temperatures, stress on livestock has resulted in the loss of 3 million tons of milk each year. This has been seen in India, where milk is a major staple.

A number of weeds and pests thrive under warmer conditions making it harder for farmers to protect their crops. In America, $11 billion is spent annually to fight these crop-threatening invaders.

Climate change alters the length of growing seasons which affects the quality of the crops. It also causes increased droughts which kills the crops. For example, a shortage of avocados was caused by a drought in California, since 2014.

Climate Change is...

The recent increase in temperatures and amounts of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere due to the overuse of fossil fuels

Should more be done to combat food scarcity?

My Solution...

Stopping climate change is the best way to stop food scarcity in the world

Food Scarcity is...

a shortage of food causing people around the world to go hungry

Possible Solutions..

Causes of Food Scarcity...

Long term effects of

Food Scarcity...

  • Climate Change
  • Drought or other extreme weather
  • Lack of government programs
  • Overpopulation
  • Economic Disparity
  • Livestock diseases or pests
  • Increased food prices
  • Lower fertility rates
  • Malnutrition side effects
  • Diseases caused by a weaker immune system

Worldwide...

About 795 million people are starving in the world, making this a pressing global issue

Locally...

17% of Florida, roughly 3.1 million people, are not guaranteed three meals a day

Stop Overpopulation

There is too many mouths in the world to feed, population must be curbed

Balance Food Worldwide

MDC's have more than enough food, even wasting it, while LDC's go without it

Modifying foods will make more food grow worldwide
