structure of the heart and the sequence of excitation of the heart muscle

medulla oblongata

the heart

blood circulation

process of blood circulation

the conduction system

definition : "a hollow muscular organ that pumps the blood through the circulatory system by rhythmic contraction and dilation. In vertebrates there may be up to four chambers (as in humans), with two atria and two ventricles".

medulla oblongata is a part of brain that is responsible for the change in heart beat, change in heartbeat cause by,

  • muscle receptors
  • baroreceptors
  • chemoreceptors

definition: a group of cardiac muscle in the walls of the heart that sends signals to the heart that caused heart muscle to contract ( heart beat), this process is divided into four steps.

the heart main function is to propel blood throughout the body

deoxygenated blood coming from the body enters the vena cava, then it goes through the right atrium, after that it goes to the right ventricle and out the pulmonary artery where it gets pumped up to the lungs to become oxygenated

after becoming oxygenated in the lungs, the blood goes back to the heart through the pulmonary vein, to the left atrium, left ventricle then the aorta, where it goes to the rest of the body

the heartbeat can change in two ways, which is either faster or slower,

  • sympathic system : faster
  • parasympethic system : slower

STEP ONE

STEP FOUR

the septum receive the signal from bundle branches, then it goes to the purkyne fibers (small fibers branches) then carries the wave to the ventricle that will cause contraction

Sinoatrial node (pacemaker) generates electrical impulse and it spreads through both atriums.

STEP TWO

STEP THREE

bundle of his transfer the signal/wave to the bundle branches then go through the heart apex.

the Atrioventrical node (AVN) receive the signal and delay occurs in order to fully fill the atriums with blood, then transfers the signal through the bundle of his.
