Hamlet--appearance vs reality
using appearance vs reality to uncover the truth
The Ghost
The Ghost, an imaginary figure comes out from the depths of hell to tell Hamlet the truth about his death.
"Now, Hamlet, hear.
'Tis given out that, sleeping in my orchard,
A serpent stung me. So the whole ear of Denmark
Is by a forgèd process of my death
Rankly abused. But know, thou noble youth,
The serpent that did sting thy father’s life
Now wears his crown."
(Act 1 Scene 5, 34-40)
the play-- The Murder of Gonzago

Big Question:
IS DECEIT EVER ACCEPTABLE?
THESIS
Everyone tells lies. Whether it is telling a friend that their new shirt looks good, or lying about your schedule to get out of an event, lying can have its benefits. Occasional white lies that benefit others are acceptable, but series of small lies can add up over time and are unacceptable.
