Atheist?

Agnostic?

What are those?

Atheist path . . .

Beliefs: Atheism is often discussed in the same breath as "agnosticism", a term generally used to describe someone who does not believe in any god,

Agnostics will often emphasize what they see as the unanswerability of 'the god question', while an atheist may not feel the question even deserves asking. These two terms often have somewhat different meanings depending on who is using them, and discussions about whether someone is agnostic or atheist will frequently prove inconclusive.

History of atheism:

There are a lot of misunderstandings about who atheists are, what they believe, and what they don't believe. People become atheists for many different reasons. Being an atheist isn't a choice or act of will - like theism, it's a consequence of what one knows and how one reasons. Atheists are not all angry, they aren't in denial about gods, and they aren't atheists to avoid taking responsibility for their acts. It’s not necessary to be afraid of hell and there are advantages to being an atheist. There are as many reasons for being an atheist as there are atheists: the road to atheism tends to be very personal and individual, based upon the specific circumstances of a person’s life, experiences, and attitudes. Nevertheless, it is possible to describe some general similarities which tend to be common among quite a few atheists, particularly atheists in the West. It is, however, important to remember that nothing in these general descriptions is necessarily common to all atheists.

Agnostic path . . .

Beliefs: Agnosticism is not a religion or complete ethical system. It is simply a belief that we cannot prove either the existence or the non-existence of deity; (i.e. of one or more gods, one or more goddesses, or combinations of the above). Many Agnostics, sometimes called "Strong Agnostics" or "Positive Agnostics" believe that we can never know about the existence of a deity. Others, often referred to as "Weak Agnostics" suggest that we cannot know anything about deity or deities at this time using the currently available evidence, but that this could conceivably change in the future.

Sooo....How many people are actually atheist/agnostic??. . .

Population/ Position within world religions:

The population and Position position of the atheist and agnosticism in the world's religions are 4% in the United States, 17% in the Great Britain, and 32% in France. Although atheists are a small subset of the religions. They make up less than one-half of one percent of the population in many countries where much large numbers claim no religious preference.

So Atheist dont believe in God, well do they have any spirtual figures?

Spiritual Figures:

Atheist and Agnostics don’t worship anything or anyone that’s why they have the title of their names. Atheist believe that there is no God, therefore some atheist worship the moon and the stars. Agnostics on the other hand do not have knowledge on the existence of a God.

Some Agnostics/Atheist...

Uma Thurman

Larry King

Charles Darwin

Richard Dawkins

How can Atheism and Agnostics correlate with Life of Pi?? . . .

What do you think??

Connection to life of pi.

In the beginning chapters of Life of Pi, we learn that Pi grows fond of Mr. Kumar, who is in fact an atheist. In chapter 22 (page 64) Pi finally explains his admiration for an atheist over agnostics, and why he would prefer one over the other.

“I can well imagine an atheists’ last words. ‘White, white! L-L-LOVE! My God!’- and the deathbed leap of faith. Whereas the agnostic, if he stays true to his reasonable self, if he stays beholden to dry, yeast less factuality, might try to explain the warmth light bathing him by saying, ‘possibly a f-f-failing oxygenation of the b-b-brain,’ and, to the very end, lack imagination and miss the better story.”

This passage explains the importance of faith, facts, and imagination, and criticizes those who lack imagination and the ability to commit to one story, as an agnostic does with religion. Pi feels disdain for the doubtfulness and uncertainty of an agnostic, but has appreciation for an atheist’s ability to believe in the absence of God with no existing proof of that absence. Because atheists have the power to believe in no God, Pi believes that atheists have the capacity to believe in something. In Pi’s point of view “atheists are simply people of a different faith, with strong beliefs,” and agnostics are simply evidence of a shameful lack of imagination.

History:

In the past, many writers deal with agnosticism in the philosophical viewpoint. Agnosticism was "invented" by Thomas Huxley . There has been different categories in the past years. Strong agnosticism refers the view that the question of the existence or nonexistence of God or gods. Weak agnosticism refers to the view that the existence or nonexistence of God or gods is currently unknown. Agnosticism is the assertion that a coherent definition of God must be put forward before the question of the existence of God can be meaningfully discussed.
