Social Factors

All across the world, westernization has impacted economies greatly. Traditional forms of production and distribution of goods and services have drastically changed to fit a western design.

  • Increase in economic and income growth
  • Increase in demand for goods and services
  • Increased numbers in labour force
  • More skilled and knowledgeable workforce
  • Night jobs
  • Reducing margin between upper and lower class
  • More women in the workforce
  • Supermarkets and urbanization
  • Globalization has allowed western values to be seen and adopted by people all over the world.
  • Over time the ideas, beliefs and values of western culture may become one homogenous worldview, eliminating unique cultures and ideologies.
  • Corrosive to traditional heritage.
  • Clothing and food are just two examples of western ideologies expanding worldwide and replacing traditional culture.

What has been done?

What can we do?

Westernization has been shown to have positive benefits, but only to a certain extent. The destruction of traditional culture by western influence needs to be mitigated, due to the need to preserve the diversity and multiculturalism that exists between our societies. Not much has been done to aid in the preservation of unique traditional cultures. Due to the fact that westernization has so quickly dominated in so many countries.

Westernization is a force that cannot be stopped easily. The global interconnectedness between nations has led to the positive sharing of resources, knowledge and technology. However, westernization is slowly destroying culture. Therefore, it is important to preserve traditional culture as best as we can. This can be done through the production and distribution of traditional clothing, spices, foods, and other goods that are unique to each individual culture, as well as protecting and supporting cultural traditions.

Political Factors

Western culture is influenced all over the world. The values of western culture have been derived from political thought, and favored free thought, human rights, and equality throughout the world.

  • On the political aspect, there are no laws saying you can't eat certain foods, or you can't wear certain clothes.
  • Everyone has Human Rights, and this freedom is enforcing the influence of these western aspects around the world.
