Here is a woman named Pearl who is clearly sadden by the death of a close friend and just seeing her child has stricken her with grief. But she still fights.

In the beginning the author true intentions was to just raise and kill the pig himself and since he has done this many times before he was more sure of his abilities leading down a path of incomprehension of his actions

Bee is a girl who just got fired from another job but in her dark little moment comes a little light to help her puppycat

Don't wallow to much in pithiness

White was having a very emotional turning point for the pig. Their closeness was cheek by jowl that he felt such a connection but the pig died.

" The scheme of buying a spring pig in blossom time, feeding it through summer fall, and butchering it when the solid cold weather arrives, is a familiar scheme to me and follows an antique pattern."

"As I stood and stared, an enormous earthworm which had partially exposed by the spade at the bottom dug itself deeper and made a slow withdrawal." Par.34

Gratefulness For the Little Things

A character that showed that being happy with the smallest things was enough was Fred the dog who is also not in very good health but is still going on.

Keeping positive in the Darkest of times

"I have noticed that Fred will feverishly consume any substance that is associated with trouble-the bitter flavor to his liking" Par.13

The pig was dying and even in his little bit of time alive he still reach for comfort. He strive for the light in his dim life is what was truly gloomy

The connection the author and the pig had atirst was not as well but later on the you can see it growing more and more even more then his own son it seems. But the lack of a name still shows a disconnection to the pig but gives it a simple little friendship that will last.

" He drank a few sips but no more; yet it seemed to comfort him to dip his nose in water and bobble it about." Par.32

It was mothers day and all the moms had opened up their gifts and he felt left out so they had decided to prank him and put a banana in one of the gift bags. They expected him to get mad but this was his reaction

" As my own spirits declined, along with the pig's..." Par. 12

" ...and I know he and I shall often revisit it singly and together, in seasons of reflection and despair, on flagless memorial days of our choosing." Par. 37

Putting Others Before Yourself

The author putted this pig before himself many times even when his health was low shows compassion for any things life

"It was about four o' clock in the afternoon when I first realized that there was something wrong with the pig. ..., and when a pig (or a child) refuses supper a chill wave of fear runs though any household, or icehouse." Par. 5

Final Thoughts

White use of poor health through out the story shows that everyone has their own problems. Using symbols to convey meanings and then inserts a random mix just to add humor. But it seems that author was in a poor shape of health and going through a tough relationship and this son of his is only enter when was needed showing they might not have a strong bond. This pig was a new way to start and do something right in his life but he failed to even have that simple part.
