How to treat opponets?

  • During the Hundred Flowers campaign, Mao would purge his enemies.
  • Mao became aggressive to those who opposed his thoughts.
  • His former comrade Liu Shaoqi was purged and ruled as a capitalist roader. His post from chairman was removed and he died later on in a prison camp.
  • After he expressed his feelings that the Great Leap Forward was not a success, Mao purged his Minister of defense, Peng Dehuai in order to maintain a group of followers around him rather than critics
  • Mao never reasoned with those who opposed him but rather purged them immediately and left them for dead
