English: (Essex) occupational name for someone who dealt in weights and measures, for example a grain factor, from Middle English pekke ‘peck’ (an old measure of dry goods equivalent to eight quarts or a quarter of a bushel).
The main language is English (British English). It is not the same as American or Australian English.
If I were to assume based on the information I have gathered I would say that they came to America for a better life or an adventure.
Again we do not know what time it was that my family was there so we cannot be positive, but £ s d ... Pounds, Shillings and Pence were the most likely currency. In England today they still use the pound. In America now it is worth about $1.55.
I am not able to trace back all the way to when we came from England, but we know it has to be before 1850. Using this time the government would most likely be outright monarchy or a
parliamentary monarchy. It changed.
We don't have any English customs. All customs I have found about Enland involve either tea or fish.(which I hate) , but if I had to find one then I would say they mainly believe in Christianity. They believe that Jesus Christ is our savior and that he died on the cross to rid us of our sins. I do as well.
Monarchy. The Queen is the head of state and is just there because of tradition and she does nothing, the Prime Minister is who runs the country.
My 2 times great grandfather John Dempster Peck wandered into the desert and no one ever saw him after that. No one knows why.
My grandpa, his brothers and father dug up airplanes. After WWII the Air Force buried unneeded aircraft in the desert outside Altus AFB, near Altus, Oklahoma. They sold the metal for scrap.
My Great Grandfather , Dempster Winfield, made a deal that his family would work on the land of a neighbor while he was gone, and in return they would be fed and taken care of. About One week later when he came back from his work he discovered that his family had not eaten since he left. He told the property owner if he didn't get his family food he was going to kill him on his porch. The man ended up giving them a basket of eggs. On the way from the property Elbert grabbed a 22 rifle from the barn. They used the 22 rifle for years to come to hunt. We still have the rifle today.
My family mainly came to America from England , but we also have Swiss, German and Native American.
