A gerund is the -ing form of a verb that functions as a NOUN. A gerund can be the subject, the direct object, or the object of a preposition.

e.g.: Sticking to a budget can be difficult.

I like spending some money on myself once in a while.

An infinitive is often used as an object:

e.g.: Gloria wants to borrow some money.
