-these layers will grow to be different parts of the baby's body..

-5 weeks is the time of the first missed period

Folic Acid

Conception, Fertilization, and Implantation

(4 Weeks)

-B Vitamin

- plays a large role in cell growth and development as well as tissue formation

-Found in leafy green veggies such as kale and spinach, orange juice, and enriched grains

-preventions: spina bifida,(incomplete closure of the spinal cord and spinal column),anencephaly (severe underdevelopment of the brain), encephalocele (when brain tissue protrudes out to the skin from an abnormal opening in the skull)

- occurs during the first 28 days of pregnancy (usually before a woman even knows she's pregnant)

-The baby is called an "embryo"

-The amniotic sac and yolk sac is developed.

-The amniotic sac contains amniotic fluid which protects the embryo.

-The yold sac produces blood and helps nourish the embryo before the placenta takes control.

-Embryos' vascular network is growing and helps transport blood, oxygen, and nutrients to the baby

-The baby is the size of an apple seed or .4 mm

-The heart is beating and begins to pump blood

Missed Period

(5 Weeks)

-The embryo is around 2mm longs and all of its major organs are in place.

At this stage, the nervous system, bones, and heart begins to form and develop.

- The placenta begins to develop and the umbilical cord and placenta work together

to provide nutrients to the baby

-A groove forms as the ectoderm develops and the layer of cells folds to form a hollow tube called the neural tube (baby's brain and spinal cord).
