Role in the Revolutionary War/ accomplishments-
Francis Marion was known to be one of the most Daring Patriots of the American Revolution. Marion’s war tactics were known strike British soldiers with a swift punch. He often got British soldiers to chase him into the swamp… but their chase would lead to a futile nightmare. Marion fought in 99% of the wars in SC. This included his fight in the Battle of Sullivan’s island, a very important victory against the British.
In 1761 Francis fought in war against the Cherokee Indians. Here Francis severed as a lieutenant in the militia. Francis Marion lost twenty-one casualties of his thirty men, but left the battle with a victory. Here Francis became well respected and learned guerrilla warfare: the special tactics he would later be know for.
His Last Years-
Francis spent his last years rebuilding his plantation, which had been wrecked from the war. Marion received gold medal for his bravery in the war, and he lived a well respected life. Marion served in the South Carolina state senate, and later died in 1795.
The Beginning:
Francis Marion was born in 1732 as his family's plantation in Berkeley county, SC. He was his family's youngest son.
Born with malformed legs Francis began his life with setbacks, although he was restless.
-Francis Marion was a southern partisan leader, who later became known as the "Swamp Fox". The nickname "Swamp fox" was given to him based off of his slick, swift military tactics.

Finding his Way-
At age 15 Francis left his home and family to join a crew sailing to the West Indies.
Ten years later, at age 25 Francis would join the South Carolina militia to fight the French and Indian War.
