Sudan

The Nuba Mountains also referred to as the Nuba Hills. Is an area located in South Kordofan, Sudan. The area is home to a group of inedigenious ethnic groups known collectively as the Nuba peoples.The mountains covers an area roughly 64km wide by 145km long. In the Nuba Mountains there almost no roads. Most of the villages there are connected by ancient paths that cannot be reached by motor vechicle.

Sudanese cuisine is varied by region, and greatley affected by the cross cultural influences in Sudan throughout history. A wide variety of stews exist in Sudan, often paired with staple bread or porridge. Further south, fish dishes are popular. Sudanese food in the north is simpler,whereas foods further south reflect the influence of surrounding areas. Full medames is the national dish of Sudan. A popular varication of this is Shahan Ful, which is more popular in Neighboring countries.

Politics in Sudan has been by National Front since 1989 and the current president is Omar al-Bashir. The two main oppisition parties are Umma party and the Demoratic Unionist Party.

The official languages in Sudan are Arabic and English.

The constitution of the Sudan guarantees unrestricted freedom of religion. But Islam has been cited as the official religion, which 65 to 75% are muslims. The rest of the population are christians and African Traditional.

Wildlife

The Nile

There are many different species of wildlife in the Sudan these include giraffe, roan antelope, bushbuck oribi, dik-dik, hyena, lion the black rhinoceros and many more. All these animals can be found in the Dinder National Park which is situated the south east of Sudan. The park is exactly 3,459 spuare miles. The park located on a major north-south migratory flyway and supports 250 species of birds and it's global importance is recognised by the United Nations Development Program.

The Nile is an important part of Sudanese culture. It's of economic and social importance. The Nile is longest river in the world, it has many different parts which flow through many east African countries. In Sudan , the Blue Nile and the White Nile meet at Khartoum, from where the Nile continues to flow into Egypt. When the Blue and the White Nile meet you can see the two rivers joining by the difference in their colour.

Zeinab Badawi is a Sudanese-British television and radio journalist. She was the first presenter of the ITV Morning News and co-presented Channel 4 News with Jon Snow (1989-1998).

Siddig El Mahdi known by his stage name Alexander Siddig. He is known for playing Dr.Julian Bashir in Star Trek Deep Space nine and prince Doran Martell in game of thrones.

Muhammad Ahmad al-Mahdi also known as the Mad Mahdi. He was a religious leader of the Samaniyya order in Sudan. And is the great grandfather of Siddig El Mahdi.

Josephine Bakhita was born on the 8th February 1869. She was a Sudanese-born former slave who became a Conossian Religious Sister in Italy. Living on working there for 45 years. In 2000 she was declared a saint by the Catholic Church. Bakhita died at 8:10pm on the 8th February 1947. For three days her body was on display while thousands of people came to pay their respects.

Dr. Mohamed Ibrahim is a Sudanese billionare and a telecommunications entrepenuer. He is the founder of Celtel a mobile telecommunicatons company that operates in 14 different African countries.

Mhasin Fadlalla was born on the 20th of February 1994. She is a Sudanese swimmer. She was born in Khartoum. And she competed at the 2012 summer Olympics in London

There are more than 300 tribes in Sudan including Danagla, Gaalien and Shagia in the north. Beja inthe east, Kalalish, Hamar, Nula, Baggara and Fur in the west and Dinka, Newir and Skelik in the south.

The traditional Sudanese clothes are very unique and beautiful although, women's traditional clothes called Toob which is tall kind of clothes and there are different colours of it. Toob is made of different materials. The girls in Sudan will start wearing Toob at the age of of 12 years old.

The Sudanese economy has been slow to develop due to the persistent civil wars in the last three decades. Since then most of these wars have ended and Sudan has become one of the most fast developing countries economically at the moment. And also Sudan is very rich in crude oil and petroleum.

Sudan has a tropical climate. In the summer months the temperature can get very hot, the temperature can get up to 43 to 50 degrees (110 degrees Fahrenheit) and in the dessert, rainfall is very unlikely. but there are lots of dust storms and the humidity is low. And the rainfall occurs between mid-June and September and is about 254mm (10 inch's high).

Men traditional clothes are called jallabiya long loose robe, it is normally white and it consist of a white scarf (immah), loose pants (asarwall), however men wear these clothes daily but younger children do not like to wear it every day because it is very complicated.
