Traditional Afghan homes are very private by American standards. The conventional Afghan home is a mud-brick structure. It generally has one entrance, with a greeting room just inside the door. Nearby is a large visiting area, used particularly when male guests are present.

The house's in Afghanistan

The mud houses, as its name describes them, are made of mud. The people use the local materials to build these houses, with no plumbing or proper sewer systems. The roofs are flat and are built using wooden poles, and then coated with a mixture of mud and straws.

"Pashto is the language spoken by most Afghans. It derives from the East Iranian family of languages and is spoken in Kandahar and Kabul, two large Afghan cities. There are two major dialects of this language – Western Pashto and Eastern Pashto. This language is believed to have originated in the sixteenth century. " 73

Houses in rural Afghanistan are traditionally made out of mud, and have a series of rooms located around a private rectangular courtyard where women and children play, cook and socialize. Married sons share the same house as their parents in most cases, although they have separate quarters.
