How did Mesopotamians determine what to trade and with whom to trade?

They traded with neighboring countries who had what they needed and needed what they had. They traded what they had a lot of, like crops, mud and clay to make pottery, and wood. They also traded metals like gold, silver, and copper. Different parts of Mesopotamia had different things, so they traded among themselves.
