What makes a good main character?
Well the most common aspect that makes a good main character is an ordinary character to which extraordinary things happen. These extraordinary things keep us interested with the main character. In order for us as the readers of novels to keep engaged with the story, we have to find an interest in the main character.
Minor Characters
Minor characters are the characters who are not the main focus character in a story. They interact with and grab the attention of the main character. They help to create good dialogue (speech) with the main character.
So while reading Rowan and the keeper of the Crystal, try to think about how the characters help to develop the plot.
Dynamic or Developing Characters
A character who changes during the story is known as a dynamic or developing character. The change that occurs to them is usually permanent.
A good exanple of a dynamic character is Shrek. At first he did not want to socialise with anyone and by the end of the movie he had valued friends and even got married.

This type of character never changes
regardless of the events that occur in the story. Lord Voldemort is always evil and his character does not really change during the progress of the stories.

An example of a main character showing how they have really changed in a particular scene can be noticed in star wars, when Anakin Skywalker battles with Obi.
The best main characters are ones that readers and viewers remember.
How do the minor characters keep the story Interesting???
They capture our imaginations and keep us on the edge of our seat. We are able to empathise with the characters, meaning that we can understand their emotions and feel what they feel.
They build the main character's personality and help keep the story moving, like Ron and Hermione in harry potter or the Cullens in Twilight, who help Bella and Edward escape, they give you sources you wouldn't otherwise get info from like Carlisle telling of Edward's past.
