Scope and Delimitation

Research Design

This study discussed the awareness

and prevalence rate of Enterobius vermicularis infection in children aging from 0-6 years old in Purok 6, Barangay 5-A, Bankerohan, Davao City. This also consisted additional information and several researches about Enterobius vermicularis.

The researchers utilized descriptive method of research. Descriptive research method aims to describe and to detail the information about the Enterobius vermicularis infection. Also statistical research method because it is used to determine the percentage of the cases of Enterobius vermicularis infection

Research Subject

The subjects of the study are children ages 3-10 years old residing in the study area. The parents were asked to answer the questionnaire.

The study was conducted at Purok 6, Barangay 5-A, Bankerohan, Davao City. The microscopic examination of the test was performed in the Microbiology Laboratory of the University of the Immaculate Conception, Main Campus

The researchers used “scotch-tape” method in diagnosing Enterobius vermicularis

Scotch Tape and slide

It is done by pressing the sticky side of the tape against the skin in the perianal region

Sampling procedure:

  • Label the slide with the patient name and date
  • Enterobius vermicularis eggs are deposited around the perianal region; eggs are rarely found in stools, and stool is not an appropriate specimen for the diagnosis of Enterobius vermicularis eggs.
  • Firmly press the sticky side of the clear, transparent tape to the skin, around the folds of the anus
  • Place the slide in the specimen container
  • The “Scotch tape” method gives the best recovery of eggs if performed before defecation, bathing or dressing in the morning.
  • Examine the slide under the microscope.
