- Ali conquered in all directions around the river to make the empire larger
- He sets up a strong government so that whatever city he conquers will be his and stay strong after he dies.
- He conquered Mali because it was weak and it had fallen.

- He surpassed all kings before him and made a greater empire than all of them
- Ali laid a solid foundation of the empire for his successor
- Most well known city is Timbuktu
- Ali's idea of traditional religion was one thing that didn't stay after he died
- His empire was one of the greatest though and stayed strong for a while after him
