Evolution of Ballet
Future of Ballet
Romantic Period... Ballet at its Best
The Birth of Ballet
- 15th century Italian Renaissance
- Dancing is a lavish spectacle at parties
- 16th century
- Catherine De Medici funded ballet in France
- Late 16th century, King Louis XIV popularized ballet by being a dancer himself
- Many fear that ballet is doomed to be an artifact and only shown within a museum
- Ballet its self an artform from the 1500s can only last so long with modern day electronics and culture
- I believe that we should hold on to the treasures of the art form for generations to come
- It's really up to the current artists and choreographers to determine the course and development of classical ballet, and if it can maintain an audience
- 19th century
- Early classical ballets such as Giselle were created during the Romantic Movement in the first half of the 19th century
- Inventions during the period included
- Tutu
- Dancing en pointe
- In the latter half of 19th century
- Marius Petipa made Russia the new and remaining capitol of ballet
Reflecting
Ballet Today
Ballet Matures
- 20th century
- ballet transitions from classical ballets to modern and comtemporary ideas
- George Balenchine, founder of NYC Ballet creates neo-classical ballets or plotless ballets
- 21st century
- Ballet today is multi-faceted with many styles and a range of artists
- 17th century
- 1st dance academy opens in Paris
- French operas incorporate ballets
- 18th century
- Jean Georges Noverre fought for ballet to stand alone as its own artform
- Successes and Hurdles
- I completed in time
- I had a bit of trouble finding and supporting my exhibit of ballet in the future
- Stopping and readjusting
- I had to stop my original idea for a family tree due to lack of information needed
- Weaknesses
- I definitely think that by changing my topic so late in the process held me back on taking the project "The Evolution of Ballet", to its best form especially with its potential
- Learning
- The most important thing I learned was before starting anything, stop and think of the possibilities, weather good or bad
- Assigned the project again?
- The next time around I would enjoy studying something more political, like predicting the field's future, or something dealing dance again
