BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

Cagayan de Oro, although classified as a highly urbanized and considered one of the most progressive and 2nd most competitive city of the country, also suffers from flooding which is a common phenomena in the Philippines.

Flood control programs that has been established in the city to prevent great destruction of flood to the community and economy seem to defeat and do not serve its purpose anymore because this disastrous situation keeps on happening again and again.

This study aims to assess the drainage problems along CM Recto Avenue, Captain Vicente Roa Extension, Corrales Avenue, Corrales Extension and Don Apolinar Velez St., Cagayan de Oro City and includes possible solutions to the problem.

OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY

To identify the common problems that cause overland flow of water drainages along captain vicente roa extension to don apolinar velez street.

To compute the channel discharge along captain vicente roa extension to don apolinar velez street.

To determine if the existing drainage system is adequate enough to accomodate the channel discharge within the study area.

To make possible solutions that may help prevent and lessen the drainage problems along the area.

METHODOLOGY

This study will use descriptive-quantitative and exploratory type of research to answer the aims of this study.

Data Gathering

Data will be gathered through historical records of the occurrence of flood in the city from sources such as internet, , maps and related studies.

OCULAR SURVEY

The following factors will be checked and will set as guidelines for this survey:

  • Flooded part of the study area
  • Type of channel
  • Existing drainage condition
  • land-use type

GATHERING OF MAPS

Topographic and vicinity map of the area will be gathered using Google Earth, AutoCAD and SketchUP.

DRAINAGE LAYOUT MAP

This will be asked from the City Engineers' Office to determine the location, size and shape of the existing channels.

Data Analysis

Data gathered will then be evaluated and computed to determine the adequacy and inadequacy of the existing drainage system .
