Representations of Race
4.
- Racial/ethnic portrayals in Disney films are influenced by the fact that most Hollywood executives are white males because when most films have a white male, other producer will feel as if though they can't use a black character because they aren't following the "movie norm" of a white character.
- If they do use a character of another colour, the producers become very stereotypical with stereotypes towards their colour by the way they act and traits they have (ie. Aladdin- thief).

- I believe that the racial/ethnic portrayals have changed a little bit because I think that the movie producers have taken into consideration and realized certain racial actions that were taking place is children movies.
- Although, there are still racist representations taken placed, they will always be in movies because everyone has they're own opinion on racism depending on our own ethnicity and opinions.
Conclusions 1.
- How parents should handle outdated offensive stereotypes that still exist in Disney films is that the parents should explain that these movies are just fantasy movies that are made up.
- Stereotypes is an oversimplified image or idea of a particular type of person or thing.
- Children need to know and understand that characteristics from these Disney films are offensive to see people.
- Parents also need to understand that these movies can effect the way a child thinks about these certain stereotypes towards people in real life.
Representations of Race 2.
- In Disney films, there are usually a specific minority group, for example, in Aladdin, the characters are Arabic and have Arabic characteristics to their personalities. In Peter Pan, there are Indians and they have the racial stereotypical stereotypes of an Indian.
- In these films, they demonstrate very racial stereotypes towards these minority groups.
Conclusions 2.
- I believe that children replicate what they see on films, TV shows and videos because as a child, they will process perceptions through things they see and learn (on tv).
- Some children see a movie and want to be like a certain character, therefore, they will replicate that character to pretend to be like them
- Children tend to have a big imagination and dreams, when they see a movie, TV show or video they will want to have those sane characteristics as a character and want to be like them.

Representations of Gender 4.
-Gender portrayals in Disney films are influenced by the fact that most Hollywood executives are white males because when movies always have a white males because when movies have a white male as a main character, movie producers will follow that "norm" and continue the use of gender stereotypes.
- Films with males as the main character are always strong and protective. They always end up saving the women even if the women is capable of doing something themselves.
Representations of Gender 3.
Conclusions 3.
Representations of Race 1.
- Racial or ethnic stereotypes that are found in The Little Mermaid are that for example, the cook for Prince Eric is French and has a curly mustache with a thick French accent. Also, all the mermaids are tall and white and the women have long, flawless hair. Sebastian, King Tridants servant, also has an accent, he has a jazzy personality and bugger lips for appearance.
- In The Croods, the racial category is based on cavemen. They all have animal skin as clothes, pointy teeth, inventive personalities, live in caves/rocks, they run/walk on their hands and feet, tough, fast and eat other animals.
- Both films have many racist examples and so does every other movie. Some of these racial characteristics of characters also show their identity and personality (if they are animated).
- I think that gender portrayals in Disney films have only slightly changed because after watching the 2014 film, The Croods, compared to The Little Mermaid, released in 1989, it still has many stereotypes but based on being a cavemen but mostly based on racism
- I believe that the gender portrayals have improved over the years in a way because of the movie production companies/directors presenting the films in a more mature manner towards children by including other body types and personality traits
- The documentary, Micky Mouse Monopoly, is somewhat fair in singling out Disney because what they explain is very true in how the producers stereotype in gender and racial ways.
- However, Disney is not the only movie company that stereotypes. Every movie out there will have some kind of gender or racial stereotype whether it is obvious or not.
- Disney is a very well known movie company that every child would have grown up watching, therefore, this documentary singles Disney out to blame.
Conclusions 4.
Representations of Gender 2.
- The accusations against Disney believe that children grew up watching Disney movies and that Disney is to blame of any stereotypical perceptions that children have on others.
- Other children movie companies such as Pixar (owned by Disney) and Dreamworks also have many stereotypes and between these 3 companies, they share the same amount of stereotypes.
- Between The Little Mermaid (Disney) and The Croods (Dreamworks), they both demonstrate many stereotypes and aren't any better or worse between the two.
- Gender stereotypes that are found in Disney films, in my opinion, are even between women and males. But I feel as though, the stereotypes are slightly more pronounced in the depictions of women because they usually are the main character in Disney films and always have the same characteristics based on "an ideal women".
- The women are always saved by the male and then they fall in love in the end
- Women receive the stereotypes for:
⋅beauty ⋅flawless figures
⋅nurture towards children ⋅cleaning the household ⋅preparing food for the family ⋅personality traits
Final Conclusions
I believe that media corporations have a lasting impact on children because of the way the corporations present the films in a stereotypical way. The characters personalities from movies will affect the way a child plays (ie. violently) because of the way a character acts in a film and that will affect a child's perspective on these stereotypes and the way they think of others in how they act. In the documentary Micky Mouse Monopoly, it explains how Disney's objective is only to make money. They over produce items and children will want their parents to buy the products so that the child can pretend to be like a Disney character which will affect their childhood and experiences. I'm conclusion, any media corporation will have a long lasting impact on children and always will.
-Gender stereotypes that are found in The Little Mermaid are that the women are very beautiful, seductive and Ariel gets the strong, masculine man of her dreams: Eric. She uses body language and serial instincts to get Eric to fall in love with her as soon as possible.
- The 2014 Dreamworks film, The Croods, is based on cavemen and how they live. Eep is an ignorant, dramatic and curious teenager that falls in love with a boy she just meets. Grug, the father is a controlling father of the house and gets what he wants until...Guy (man that Eep likes) comes along.
- There are gender stereotypes in all Disney movies based on appearance and personality traits on all characters
