Democritus' Theories
The Early Greek Philosophers
- Rejected the concept of the atom
- Did not believe that the "nothingness" of space could exist.
- Influenced people not to believe in Democritus' ideas.
- For two thousand years, people were on Aristole's side when it came to dealing with an atom.
- Matter is composed of empty space through which atoms move.
- Atoms are solid, homogenous, indestructible, and invisible.
- Atoms are all kinds of shapes and sizes.
- Apparent changes in matter result from changes in the groupings of atoms and not from changes in the atoms themselves.
