Andy Warhol

"Mikey Mouse"

ArT HiSTorY

POp ArT

(1960's-now)

This art was created in 1984. It Was painted in Andy's well known Studio called "the Factory"

Characteristics of Pop-Art are very much influenced by the mass consumerism of the 1960's. The artists of the time were only just interperting life as they saw it at the time. They painted things such as canned food, bottles, movie stars, and politcial figures. People responded well to Pop-Art because it was identifiable and people could relate to the products or people shown.

My first impresson if the work is that I can see how the newly developing industry of televison animation was affecting more than just its audiance, but the culture itself was changing.

The main element used in this peice of art was complementary colors. The orange and the purple contrast perfectly to get the effect he desired.

I can see that the artist means to show the industry taking over society. He sends the message of acceptance of consumerism

5 Coca-Cola Bottles

My first impressions are that the man was very thirsty at the time, spurring on this self-inspired art peice.

The elements of design are clearly stated through line. the outline of the Cola bottles is clear and high-lights the main focus of the art.

The message sent through the painting is definately the idea of mass consumerism, having everything available to when and where you want it.

This painting was created in 1964. It was created and mass-produced using Andy's new invention, the silk-screen
