KARAKURI KAIZEN
Conclusions
Example of Karakuri Kaizen in the industry
It is a very important topic in the industry because with these simple mechanisms we can eliminate waste, reduce cost, saving energy and optimization the performance of process, people and infrastructure.

How to work on Karakuri Kaizen
Example of an old Karakuri
Step 1
Problem Presentation at worksite
(transport, carrying in, out of part, part box b hand, workpiece turnover, operators trip, load, unload of heavy objects, etc.).
Step 2
To the selected problem
what the kaizen outcome should be?
what does the worksite want kaizen outcome to be?
Clarify the target vision of kaizen result
Step 3
Draw a rough sketch (image) of the ideal state by yourself
Step 4
Make a model of the ideal state with inexpensive materials such as cardboard or wood sticks based on the sketch
Step 5
After verifyng that the mechanism works with the model, draw a plan

Definition of Karakuri Kaizen
Karakuri Kaizen in the Industry
Those ideas are introduced and adapted by many leading manufacturing companies in Japan and highlighted as basic technology for MONOZUKURI"(Manufacturing) and as a key for low cost automation.
How born the Karakuri
The word of KARAKURI means "Mechanism" or "Trick".
One of good example is "KARAKURI Ningyo" which is a mechanized puppets or automat from Japan from 17th century to 19th century. Puppets or dolls is powered by a wound spring made of whalebone, and the actions are controlled by a set of cams and levers.
1.- Multiple actions actived by one move
*Combination of varios karakuri mechanism
2.- Simple Mechanism
*That is easy to be maintained and repaired
3.- Low Cost, Less energy consuption.
*utilize waste materials or inexpensive goods
4.- Free from Muri, Muda and Mura (everburden, waste, unevenness)
*non-value-added work.
