Ottoman Empire

Pre- world War I

Political

  • The Ottomans conqured Balkans in eastern europe
  • They also added areas of the Byzantine empire
  • Their first king was Osman I
  • In 1453 under the rule of Sultan Mahamad II, they captured the Byzantine capital, Constantinople
  • This marked the end of the Byzantine empire

Social

  • The rulers at this point in time were of the Muslim religion
  • The people they ruled over were not
  • Most of the Ottoman people were Christian or Jewish
  • The people of the Ottomen empire were free to practice their own religion even though they were under the rule of muslims
  • Each religion in the Ottoman empire lived in their own communities but would work and trade alongside eachother

Economic

  • The Ottomans ruled over Greece, Suburbia, and Bosnia
  • They had a closed agricultural economy
  • This shows riginal distinctions whithin the empire
