In the "long walk to freedom", pages 356-358 relates to many of the things that are still going on in the world today such as racism. Nelson Mandela was in prison and had to get surgery . After getting out of hospital, the headquarters ordered that he shall be transferred to another prison. which was different from his previous one. He was going to be alone, apart from everybody without giving him any explanation. While in his cell, he realized the government was fascistic and racist. They needed to urban the ANC, release the political prisoners and remove the troops from the townships. Someone needed to take the first step to change/freedom. People are STILL to this present day racist.
Nelson Mandela was put in prison for racial equality. The housing for the prisoners was archaic and dirty. Same as the prisoners in Night, of course things was a lot worse. They were injured and starved. The food Nelson ate was different from Night. Nelson ate onions, eggplants, many vegetables and fruits. In Night they ate dried up bread, water down coffee and soup. Both books are similar and different in a lot of ways. The goal in the book "Night" was to kill the Jews. And the goal in "Long Walk To Freedom" was to break Nelson down.
Features
Nelson liked Pollsmoor because there he had better food and more room to exercise
in Robben Island he would exercise in a cramped up cell. It was also better for his wife and family to visit him.
Nelson Mandela gets comfortable with his surrounding. He gets visits from the United Democratic Front and the Mass Democratic Movement, also from his wife and family. Nelson was first in Robben Island and then moved to Pollsmoor later on in 1988 he gets a new prison home at Victor Verster. Nelson liked Pollsmoor much better than he liked Robben. He liked the much amount of space he had and the features of it, he compared Pollsmoor to a five-star hotel. Nelson also liked it better because it was easier for his wife and family to some see him there.
