While the New Deal was only partially successful, it changed the nation. From WWII on, the Federal Government took an active interest in the welfare of the American people.

All these proposals cost money, and taxes were raised on millions of Americans.

Roosevelt proposed massive government projects to put Americans directly to work.

He also provided free school lunches, created the SOCIAL SECURITY PROGRAM, and paid artists to produce art and literature praising New Deal programs.

As an emergency measure, Roosevelt called for a Bank Holiday. People were forced to keep their money in the bank.
