How Ancient Egypt Rose to Power

Khafre's Pyramid, the Great Pyramids of Giza

Ancient Egypt rose to height by having a stable colony and a great king that everyone believed in. They also had a very stable food income because of the Nile River so they could grow a lot of food and could keep animals in pens to harvest for meat.

The pharaoh also hired workers to build his tomb or pyramid so the builders get fed and housed every day.

Egypt's Pharaohs' number one goal was to expand their borders. When they marched into neighboring countries they gave them a choice,"to join them or die". So when other countries tried to invade Egypt the invaded countries acted like body guards. Another factor is that it was mostly desert as far as the eye can see so that put off some invasions.

The first King of Egypt: Narmer

The Foundation of Egypt

Egypt started getting weaker as it's enemies were getting stronger. Egypt started losing battles and grew poorer. Eventually they lost a battle to the Persians. Then the Greeks invaded and kicked out the Persians but Egypt didn't help because they hated the Persians. So Egypt thought the Greeks were their heroes, the conqueror was Alexander the Great.

The Greeks ruled Egypt for over 300 years before the Romans invaded and this time the Egyptians did fight but they lost. The Pharaoh at that time was Cleopatra VII. Cleopatra knew they'd lost the battle so she made a snake bite her.

This was 30 B.C.E. Cleopatra was the last pharaoh and Egypt had fallen.

The Fall of Ancient Egypt

Egypt's borders at its Height

One of the Pharaoh's fighting chariots

Before Egypt was known as a whole, it was divided into two countries, northern and southern Egypt.

Over time southern Egypt conquered northern Egypt. This was probably a combination of military conflicts and a stronger southern culture.

The very first king of all of Egypt was Narmer in 3100 B.C.E.

The Rise and Fall of Ancient Egypt

In it's height, Ancient Egypt had over 7 million people in it's area. That's a lot of people and more people means things get built faster and there's more food because there's more growers.

Something that astounds me is that all the gold Ancient Egypt had, mined and used would weight approximately 10,000 tonnes of gold. (one tonne is 1000 kilograms.) So 10,000 tonnes is about 285000 of you!

In the next slide I've circled all the territories that Egypt have conquered.

So that's How Ancient Egypt

Rose and Fell
