  • Had to fill a bath with water to wash of f their sins
  • The catch: They filled water in sieves.(A container used to strain water.)

What did he do?

  • Made sexual advancements to Hera
  • Which was Zeus's wife
  • Later slept with a cloud version of Hera
  • As a result impregnating it
  • It gave birth to to a species of Centaurs called the Ixionidae

The punishment...

  • Tied to a flaming wheel
  • It spun for eternity
  • It represented his burning lust

Tantalus

What did he do?

  • Also dined with gods.
  • Stole ambrosia.
  • Fed son to gods.

The punishment...

  • Stood in pool of water with grapes overhead, but could never eat or drink.

Sisyphus

What did he do?

  • Killed guests and travelers to his castle
  • Seduced his niece
  • Took his brothers throne
  • Betrayed Zeus’s secrets

The punishment...

  • Was chained in Tartarus but tricked his guard and escaped.
  • Had Persephone send him back to Earth.
  • Forced to roll stone uphill, never reaching the top.
  • Represented his never-ending frustration.

Tityus (Tityos)

What did he do?

  • Attempted to abduct Leto
  • Slain by Apollo and Artemis

The punishment...

  • Tied to a rock to have his liver ripped open by two vultures.

  • Goddess of motherhood.
  • Mother of the twin gods Apollo and Artemis.

King Salmoneus

Who?

  • Arrogant king.
  • Made subjects worship him, impersonating Zeus.
  • Zeus smote him with a thunderbolt.
