- Had to fill a bath with water to wash of f their sins
- The catch: They filled water in sieves.(A container used to strain water.)
Ixion
What did he do?
- Made sexual advancements to Hera
- Which was Zeus's wife
- Later slept with a cloud version of Hera
- As a result impregnating it
- It gave birth to to a species of Centaurs called the Ixionidae
The punishment...
- Tied to a flaming wheel
- It spun for eternity
- It represented his burning lust
Tantalus
What did he do?
- Also dined with gods.
- Stole ambrosia.
- Fed son to gods.
The punishment...
- Stood in pool of water with grapes overhead, but could never eat or drink.
Sisyphus
What did he do?
- Killed guests and travelers to his castle
- Seduced his niece
- Took his brothers throne
- Betrayed Zeus’s secrets
The punishment...
- Was chained in Tartarus but tricked his guard and escaped.
- Had Persephone send him back to Earth.
- Forced to roll stone uphill, never reaching the top.
- Represented his never-ending frustration.
Tityus (Tityos)
What did he do?
- Attempted to abduct Leto
- Slain by Apollo and Artemis
The punishment...
- Tied to a rock to have his liver ripped open by two vultures.
Leto
Who?
- Goddess of motherhood.
- Mother of the twin gods Apollo and Artemis.
King Salmoneus
Who?
- Arrogant king.
- Made subjects worship him, impersonating Zeus.
- Zeus smote him with a thunderbolt.
