Size of the volleyball court/layout
Volleyball is a team sport in which two teams of six players are separated by a net. Each team tries to score points by grounding a ball on the other team's court under organized rules.
Rules and regulations of volleyball
Scoring system:
- Teams score a point on every rally (Rally Point System), regardless of which team served. Formerly, a team could only win a point if it served the ball. Winning the serve back from the opposition was known as a side-out.
- Matches are played best of five sets. The first four sets are played to 25 points, with the final set being played to 15 points.
- A team must win a set by two points.
Regulations
There are many rules for each team in volley ball these are:
- Each team are allowed six players on court at one time in a volleyball match, who each must rotate one position clockwise every time their team wins back service from the other team.
- Only the three players at the net positions can jump and spike or block the ball near the net coming from the other side. The back of the court players can only hit the ball over the net if they jump from behind the attacking line.
- Most teams have a starting line-up with a setter, two center blockers, two receiver-hitters and a striker . Only certain players will be involved with service reception. Players will also have specialist positions for attack and defense.
- Substitutions are allowed during the game.
- Each team will have a Libero which is a play on the back row these players are allowed to go in and out the game as much as they need without telling the referee. This player wears a different colored top to his/her team mates.
- Each team aren't allowed more than 3 touches each time they receive the ball. If they take more than 3 the point goes to the other team.
Regulations set by Volleyball England
Court surface:
There is two types of surfaces you can play on these are indoor or outdoor surfaces. The indoor surface is made of wood. The outdoor surfaces will just be made of tarmac.
Court markings:
Both indoor and outdoor courts are measured 18 m x 9m
Indoor courts also include an attack area designated bya line 3 m back from the center line
Net:
Net height for men, co-ed mixed 6 is 2.43 meters
Net height for women is 2.24 m
The Ball: Qualities and measurements:
Regulations state that the ball must be spherical, made of leather or synthetic leather, have a circumference of 65–67 cm, a weight of 260–280 g and an inside pressure of 0.30–0.325 kg/cm2.
