life in the 1960s in Australia was a very important time filled up with major events.

For example in 1966 Australia changed from pounds, shillings and pence to dollars and cents

In 1960 the white Australian population was 10,400,000 teenagers filled up most of the population

In 1960 most families had a house,a car, a garden and a regular income. And over 2 million migrants came to Australia during the 1960s

During this time violent crime increased and a lot of peoples attitude to the police changed

In 1965 a lovely women named Romar Mitchel became the first women to judge in Australia and she also became a judge at this time

The total population in Australia in the 1960s was 10.28million. In 1969 the population grew to 12.26 million. The life expectancy in 1960 was 70.82 years. In 1969 it increased a little to 70.97 years.

New south Wales was the most populated area in Australia at that time and still is. In 1960 New South Wales had a total population of 3,832,000

in 2015 the population in New South Wales went up to 7,618,000 people. The majority of people living in Australia ranges from the age of 25-54 years old

women were finally allowed to enter the workforce but were treated unfairly as they were hired on their weight and there softness of hands even though women had the right to the same pay as male workers they were still payed less then them

the contracepetive pill came out at this time but were only offered to married women.

they couldnt open there bank account unless their husband were present

women felt as they had lost their identities and were either labeled as their childrens mother or their husbands wife

a lot of changed happened espicially in womens rights . people started to think about how we can make this world a better place

In December 1968 a breathalyser test was introduced to New South Wales. in 1968 the first minister for aboriginal Affairs was elected which the federal goverment had set up earlier in september

the goverment started to care a bit more about the people living in there country so they decided to change the laws so that Australia has better laws for everyone no matter what race

women started to protest against the anti women laws and went on marches to try and get the government to notice them and push for change in the laws so that women gained equal rights

prime minister Sir Robert Menzies he was the longest serviing prime minister Australia has ever had he served for a total of 18 years

Vincent was a Aboriginal rights activist he lead 200 men and their families in protest of the job they were protesting unfair wages and unfair treatment they described it as they were being treated like dogs. the strike was called Gurindigi strike and it lasted nine years the longest in Australia history

Lionel Rose was a very successful Aboriginal Boxer, he drafted and defeated Rocky Gattellari at 18 years of age. when he was 19 he traveled to Tokyo Japan fighting for the world bantamweight title, he wont in the 15th round. because of his incredible achievements at such a young age he became an Australian of the year 1968 becoming the first Aborigine to receive the honor
