Hey everyone, I am coming to you on behalf of the inspirational messages committee,
- 00:05 - 00:08
just about wellness Wednesday and getting outside.
- 00:08 - 00:11
So first we're going to talk about some benefits of getting outside.
- 00:11 - 00:14
First of all, your physical health can definitely improve. Just you.
- 00:14 - 00:19
Being outside is going to increase opportunities to move and be more active.
- 00:19 - 00:23
Your mental health can improve just by getting vitamin
- 00:23 - 00:26
D and boosting your serotonin levels by stepping outside,
- 00:26 - 00:30
getting refreshed and continuing on with your day.
- 00:31 - 00:33
So where do you go
- 00:33 - 00:35
while you're at home and you're teleworking?
- 00:35 - 00:41
That can be kind of a cyclical thing where you're constantly inside,
- 00:41 - 00:42
you're not really moving your body,
- 00:42 - 00:44
you might look down at your fitness tracker and you're like,
- 00:44 - 00:46
I've moved five steps today, I don't know what's going on.
- 00:46 - 00:49
I encourage you to just walk outside.
- 00:49 - 00:53
Um, if you're feeling like you're getting overwhelmed, take a minute or two,
- 00:53 - 00:55
breathe, get some sunlight on your face,
- 00:55 - 00:57
go back inside and continue on with what you're
- 00:57 - 01:00
doing and then you can take advantage of going,
- 01:00 - 01:04
you know, just for like a 20 minute walk around the block, we get an hour.
- 01:04 - 01:08
So utilize that well, because that will help you push through the rest of your day
- 01:10 - 01:11
and then while you're at work,
- 01:11 - 01:14
I really take advantage of the trails that are around here.
- 01:14 - 01:18
There are so many opportunities to just get your body moving.
- 01:18 - 01:20
Um you can go with a co worker, you can go alone.
- 01:20 - 01:22
If you just need a couple of minutes away from
- 01:22 - 01:24
your desk away from everybody else and you know,
- 01:24 - 01:27
there's those times where we definitely might go out to
- 01:27 - 01:29
our car and sit for a second just to breathe.
- 01:29 - 01:35
But being outside in the open, fresh air really is something that can encourage us to
- 01:35 - 01:38
do our jobs well for the rest of the day.
- 01:38 - 01:41
And one of the other things that you can do is sit outside for lunch,
- 01:41 - 01:43
I do that when it's nice outside,
- 01:43 - 01:47
it reminds you that there's an outside when you're at work and so it really
- 01:47 - 01:50
can also have positive effects on our mood
- 01:50 - 01:52
and our ability to communicate with customers.
- 01:54 - 01:56
And then the last thing if you're looking to be challenged,
- 01:56 - 01:57
say you're a little bit more competitive.
- 01:57 - 01:59
I am the same way.
- 01:59 - 02:01
Um, I know that in my unit,
- 02:01 - 02:03
we often will compete through our fitness apps and
- 02:03 - 02:07
different ones that we download and it keeps us excited
- 02:07 - 02:10
and encouraged it encouraged to move our bodies as well
- 02:10 - 02:13
as get outside with our families and then um,
- 02:13 - 02:15
to work on our own physical health and mental health.
- 02:15 - 02:19
And another thing you can do is I've been trying to do this 1000 hours
- 02:19 - 02:22
challenge app and I don't know if I'm gonna hit 1000 hours this year,
- 02:22 - 02:26
but you can see the website down here and all it does
- 02:26 - 02:29
is it just tracks the amount of hours that you're outside.
- 02:29 - 02:29
Um,
- 02:29 - 02:32
and so what that does is instead of spending
- 02:32 - 02:35
that time scrolling through social media or wasting it.
- 02:35 - 02:40
Um you're intentional about unplugging about going outside, about,
- 02:40 - 02:44
um, spending some time in nature, so there's resources available.
- 02:44 - 02:47
And if you see me out on the trail and you want to come walk with me,
- 02:47 - 02:49
feel free to have a great Wednesday.
