  • Manitoba gets its name from the cree indian words "manitou bou" meaning the narrows of the Great Spirits. It refers to a place in Lake Manitou where the waves make a crashing sound thought to come from the Great Spirit.
  • Winnie-the-Pooh was named after a real black bear named Winnie after the city Winnipeg.
  • The Winnipeg falcolns won the first ever Olympic gold medal in hockey in 1920
  • Manitoba is home to one of the largest wolf populations in the world
  • The Prairie Provinces provides most of Canada's grain and cattle
  • The major agricultural crop is wheat
  • The grain is transported to the Pacific Ocean, the Great Lakes, or Hudson Bay by railway
