Why should you live on Mars?

Weather of Mars

Mars' Atmosphere

What is Mars made of???

The 2 Moons of Mars

How was Mars Discovered???

Mars was discovered using a very popular piece of technology, The Hubble space Telescope. It was and still is used to observe and discover any changes that happen on Mars.

Another technology is the "Mars Pathfinder", which is a robot probe that was sent to Mars to discover information on Mars Surface and all of the structures and temperatures, and any other changes that occur on or within Mars.

Thank you for your time!

Mars

  • Mars' weather is dry, cold and clear.
  • Summer daytime temperatures at the equator can be as warm as 20°C
  • Nice short sleeve weather and comfortable for most activities.
  • The same night temps can drop to about -90°C.
  • The 110°C difference in one day can create a warm and cold temp fronts that can lead to dust devils and dust storms that can engulf the entire planet for weeks
  • Winter temperatures can stay as low as -140°C
  • The Carbon Dioxide in the atmosphere freezes and becomes dry ice
  • The Martian North Pole has a one meter layer of dry ice in the winter
  • South Pole is covered by a permanent eight meter deep layer

Mars One is a project that will slowly move people to Mars. By 2033 over 20 people will be living on Mars.

In Mars your main job will be a construction worker. You will build whatever you want and work as whatever you want. So if you want to be a doctor, then first you will build your own clinic and then become a doctor.

The outer surface is mostly Basalt.

The volcanic activity in the planet stopped many years ago therefore leaving its surface covered with iron oxide dust which is comparable to talcum powder. This is what gives the planet its red colour.

Scientists believe that Mars has a core region which is nearly 1,480 km in radius and that it consists of mostly iron and 17% sulfur

Curiosity is the latest Rover sent to Mars. It is exploring Mars as you read this. It has Sent back some very useful information.

  • It takes Mars 687 Earth Days to revolve around the sun. That’s about one year, ten months and three weeks
  • It travels at about 24.077 km/s while orbiting the sun

The Size of Mars:

  • Mars has approximately half the diameter of Earth
  • 15% of the volume of Earth
  • 11% of the mass of Earth

Colour:

  • Is a red-orange colour which is caused by iron oxide (commonly known as hematite or rust)
  • Colour is actually closer to butterscotch. The dust from its atmosphere makes it look red

What does it look like:

  • Its highest mountain is Olympus Mon. It is also the highest mountain in our solar system.
  • Also has clouds and polar ice caps
  • Just like Earth it also has weather and seasons

Where is Mars in the universe in relations to the Earth and Sun

•Mars is the Fourth Planet from our sun, within our solar system.

•It is a rocky planet, somewhat similar to Earth, Venus, and Mercury

•Mars is right beside Earth but at a greater distance from our Sun and has our asteroid belt on its right side

•Mars is the last of the terrestrial planets in our solar system

•With the first of the Jovian planets (Jupiter) very close to it, but just past our asteroid belt

Mars has two moons, Phobos and Deimos

Phobos:

  • Phobos is the larger of Mars' two moons
  • It is an oblong shaped moon measuring 27x21x19 km
  • It orbits Mars with a period of 7.3 hours, less than a Martian day

Deimos:

  • Deimos looks to have little surface detail because it is covered with a thick layer of dust
  • The dust fills craters and covers some surface detail
  • The reason Phobos may not have as much dust and debris on its surface is because of its close orbit to Mars where the planet's gravity would tend to pull debris off the moon
  • Both moons have low escape velocities, Phobos is only 12 m/sec and

Deimos is even lower.
