One of the problems was the dry spell that ruined all of the soybean plants. Another was the military and government taking advantage of the amount they received.

The president of North Korea Kim John Un's has made it illegal or people to claim land rights, and for having to much food. The Democratic Peoples of North Korea do not allow the populations rights.
The people would work countless hours just to make ends meet. They earned barley enough money to provide food for themselves. It is hard to be well off in North Korea, and its very hard to raise a family there.
In North Korea you have no freedom of speech, you can be killed or put in prison if you say the wrong thing. Also you can not just believe in any religion you want. Also sex trafficking is huge problem lot of girls and women are sold as wives to people for only a few hundred dollars.
People in North Korea who where arrested would face torture from the military. This was for the military to gain information. A few examples of torture they would do is sleep deprivation, beating with an iron rod, kinking or slapping them, and making them sit or stand for a long period of time. They also had the “pigeon torture,” which was when they handcuffed your hands behind your back and tied you to a pole in the air and then best you. They would also rape female ladies.
