In pairs of two, read chapter seven and complete the worksheet.
You will need a dictionary
Setting is the scenery or location of a place. The setting is composed of all of the details that can be seen in an area. Setting can be a specific place, time period, or atmosphere.
Read the chapter three in your groups. After you read each of the paragraph groups (on your worksheet) fill out the setting details on your sheet. Then add one detail to each poster around the room. Make sure to write your group name next to it.
We will read the introduction to 'I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings'. On your worksheet or in your notebook you will answer the following question:
Why Does Maya Angelou choose to start her book with this story? (1 paragraph minimum)
Who are the Boys?
Why might they want to hurt Uncle Willie?
What does this tell us about America during this time?
Why did Maya Angelou choose to share this with us?
You will have the first 30minutes of class to complete the Chapter test.
After you complete the test pick up the worksheet from the back of the classroom and a book. Start reading chapters 8-9 and complete the worksheet.

Maya Angelou is an African American author and poet. She has become a very important part of African American history both because of her writing and activism. Her book, I know Why the Caged Bird Sings, is a celebrated and critically acclaimed book of memoir.
