Treaty of Portsmouth

Historical thinking

The British colony was rapidly growing and were determined to take over all of North America. They kept building settlements on the First Nations land. The Treaty of Portsmouth was made to end the problem regarding the British continuing to build settelments on Wabanaki land and to further make peace between the Wabanaki Confederacy and the British. The treaty of Portsmouth was written in English. The treaty was read out loud to the first nations because they couldn't read English. British had promised to stop invading the First Nations territories and the Wabanaki agreed to stop attacking the British. Shortly after the treaty was signed, the British started to break the agreements of the treaty by building settlements on the First Nations territories.

Purpose

Perspective

And thats our presentation

The three perspectives that will will be included are the British, the Wabanaki and the French. After the treaty of Utrecht, the treaty of Portsmouth allowed the British to settle upon the wabanaki land. However the British started enslaving the Wabanaki people which led to bloodshed and uprisings. The French gave the Wabanaki guns and horse's to start a revolution in Acadia. Furthermore we will be focusing to these three groups and the Treaty of Portsmouth.

The purpose of this presentation is to learn more about the Treaty of Portsmouth and its causes and effects on the Wabanaki First Nation, the French, and the British people. The time period we will be covering is 1700 to 1713. We will be focusing on the Treaty of Portsmouth and history connecting to it. We will be disscusing about the time when the British made a treaty, but they went against the treaty by building more settlements in the Wabanaki First Nations land, which led us in war.

Conclusion

Research

The images we can use could be actual pictures of the treaty papers. There are websites we can use to gather evidence information for this subject. We can also use sites that are related to the treaty of portsmouth for external evidence.

In conclusion, the Treaty of Portsmouth has stopped the British from invading the First Nations territory only for about a few months. The reason is because the British needed more land for their settlements. This treaty hasnt helped either of these people because the Wananaki peopl have attacked the British settlements along the east coast, while on the other hand, the British are building their settlements along their territory. Now the british are trying to find a way to bring New England subjects to Nova Scotia to out number the French and First Nations, while the French are uniting with the First Nations.
