Steps of colonization
- This place that colonized Belize was the British Empire.
- Great Britain first sent an official representative to Belize in the late 17th century
- Belize was not called the "Colony of British Honduras" until 1840.
- It became a crown colony in 1862.
- While being colonized, the Belizean people suffered under slavery
- In this time the Belizean people continued to drive and stop the British as the resistance continued.
- Belize was colonized was because of their rich materials, and natural resources such as gold, sugar, fish, citrus and cocoa

The Great Blue Hole is over 300 meters across, 127 meters deep, and a very popular place for scuba diving.
After Belize had been colonized by the British, their official language became English(it’s the only country in Central America with that language), they started exporting food and other natural resources, and they became, officially, a crown colony.
- The effects of this colonization are: they began speaking English as a national language
- They started exporting mainly sugar, bananas, citrus, clothing, fish products, molasses etc.
- And they started living under the rule of the Queen.
- Some positive things had come from this colonization.
- For example:
- They now have lots of tourism which improves their economy
- They have lots of natural resources
- And now they have much better education, are wealthy and have technology for agriculture, architecture etc.

- Became independent in January 1964.
- The certified name of the territory was changed from British Honduras to Belize in June 1973,
- Full independency was granted on September 21, 1981.

- The culture in this place was usually dancing in-between the streets.
