Malik’s religious beliefs were changed from his trip to Mecca. That is also when he had gotten his knew name El Hajj Malik El Shabazz. His beliefs were changed because “(Malik) writes of his pilgrimage to Mecca… many white people he met during the pilgrimage displayed a spirit of unity and brotherhood that provided him a new, positive insight into race” (Wilcox 20 May 1964), which made him realize that whites and blacks don’t need to be separated and that through religion and belief they could end racism

During his interview, Malik for the first time says something against the Islamic Religion. “In my opinion, Muslim religious leaders have not stressed the importance of education to the Muslim communities” (Clark 254). This showed that his life no longer, even though still highly influenced by it, was focused around his Islamic beliefs.

Influences

.

Religion and Mecca were a huge influence and what caused him to change his name to El Hajj Malik El Shabazz. Malik while in Mecca and was spiritually changed. He became interested in Pan Africanism which says that black people around the world would unite to form a strong community. When it came time to leave he was asked “What ha[s] impressed you most through your journey?” and he responded, “The brotherhood I have witnessed. I’ve realized that blacks and whites could live and work together.” He also realized that, “People of different races could live together if they shared common ideas and beliefs.” He truly was a changed man. Once back from Mecca he decided he was going to tell people about the ideas and beliefs he had about blacks and whites and how they could collaborate together. He no longer thought that different races should be separate, but instead work together as one

Opinion about African Identity or civil rights

"Malcom X" he called out- and when i looked, he stuck his hand out of his car, across at me, grinning. "Do you mind skaking hands with a white man?" Imagine that! Just as the traffice light turned green, I told him, "I dont mind shaking hands with human beings. Are you one?" -El Hajj Malik El Shabazz

But before he came to mecca his opinion on African American Identity was viewed as were, that the whites toke their freedom away from them. After Malcolm X came back from his trip to mecca he had a huge change of opinion about whites, that even some of the whites were trying to help the blacks earn there equality.

Views on Violence

Opinions on violence: After he came back from Mecca he said that whites and blacks could work together to get rid of racism. He was nonviolently taking action by making speeches about how America needed to change.
