Irish Poised to Revisit Abortion Law
By CAROL RYAN
Published: February 21, 2012
DUBLIN — Abortion is back on the agenda in Ireland after a European Court of Human Rights ruling last year found the state in violation of its own Constitution on the matter. Ireland’s abortion laws are the strictest in Europe, but the Irish government may be about to address the previously unapproachable: whether to loosen restrictions on ending a pregnancy.
People were created to be not only sacred, but social as well. Family
is the central social institution. People have the right and the duty to participate in society, and together work to promote the common good.
ME TO WE
'"You can't solve world poverty here," a Dutch UNICEF worker told him. Kielburger recalls the conversation recently at Free The Children, the Toronto-based aid organization he founded in 1995 with 11 other 12-year-olds. "The very best thing you ... can do is ... educate your own people on the importance of international aid," the worker said. "People in rich countries have to learn to share."
Kielburger is 24 now. No longer does anybody suggest he and his brother Marc, 30, are too young to tackle world problems in ambitious and provocative ways.'

Lincoln and Slavery
President Abraham Lincoln was elected to office in 1860. He originally did not object to slavery itself, but only to the expansion of slavery outside of states in which it already existed. However, during the Civil War he refined his stance to include the abolition of slavery. Slaves were bought and sold, beaten and whipped, and generally mistreated. Lincoln believed that the institution of slavery was immoral and that it offended the dignity of work.
