Ophiuchus
- A very rare constellation
- Also called Serpentarius, Serpent- Bearer, Holder and Charmer
- Ophiuchus as a whole(right) is actually two constellations put together, Serpentarius (man), and Serpens (snake)
When and Where Can you find Ophiuchus
- Comes from Greek mythology
- Is called "The Sea Monster," but is also referred to as "The Whale," or "The Shark."
- One of largest constellations
- Not part of the zodiac
- The word Cetacean comes from Cetus.
- means marine mammal: dolphin, whale
- Is on celestial equator, stretches to Hercules's head to the north, and Scorpio to the south.
- In between Aquila, Serpens, and Hercules.
- In northwest center of Milky Way
- Best visible during period November–January (summer in the Southern Hemisphere, winter in the Northern Hemisphere)
- Opposite of Orion in sky, Scorpius is to the west and Sagittarius to the east.
- Can never be seen in full
Ophiuchus Mythology
- Is connected with Orion and Scorpius
- Is usually associated in Asclepius's story of healing Orion from the scorpion's sting
- Ophiuchus was basically Asclepius's prodigy, eventually becoming a great healer
- He became so good, he could bring dead people back
- Hades felt his realm was being threatened, so he had Zeus smite Ophiuchus with a lightning bolt, but put him in the sky to be remembered.

- they were mad at her mother, Cassiopeia, for her vanity
- Then Perseus comes along and saves and marries her, happily ever after

- It was a Sea Monster that was slain by Perseus in one and Heracles(Hercules) in the other
- One story
- Was sent to plague Troy as punishment for King Laomedon refusing to pay Poseidon for the building of Troy's walls.
- An oracle said the only way to get rid of it was to sacrifice his daughter
- He did so, and Hercules saved her and killed the beast with arrows.
When and Where Can You Find Cetus?
- Located in the part of the sky that has most of the water related constellations, such as Aquarius, Pisces, and Eridanus.
- Brightest star is Deneb Kaitos (Beta Ceti)
- Southern Hemisphere
- Best seen in December
