Always remeber about the people who cares about you, learn from your mistakes,
and acknowledge of who you are. - In the book Mark, the main character, wanted to be a saxophone player, but he got involved in a bootlegging incident and now vicious gangs are after him for money because he lost their truck. His friends left him because they were pulled into the indicant without knowing. At the end Mark is
freed from a life of crime, and inspired by great writers and singers, he comes to appreciate hard work and his own community.
Poem
The Negro Looks at Livers
I've Known livers
I've Know livers as old as the world and filled
With Human Blood
My soul is as old as my liver
I've know fat men who could make their livers quiver
I've know skinny men with nothing but a sliver of a liver
I know a German who eats onions with his liver
I saw a man drowning his liver in the river
I've know livers
Squishy, bloody livers
My soul is as old as my liver
