Literary Dandy
What is a dandy?
- Historical Dandy:
- Change in dress also implemented social change.
- Distinguished by fashion and personal hygiene and cleanliness.
- Attempted to establish a separation of class away from the elite and urban poor.
- Literary Dandy:
- Often reflected the author's hopes or desires for success.
- Were often posed as androgynous.
- Symbolized anti-bourgeois politics and the self-made man.
- Style of masculine dress, code of values, and behavior.
- Movement started by George Brummell
- Movement was used to challenge the dominant social establishment.
